In celebration of Belk’s 130th anniversary, the retailer is visiting southern towns across their 16-state footprint to recognize the local communities they call home. On Saturday, Belk stopped in Waynesville to celebrate loyal customers with an anniversary party at its Town Center Loop location.

The popular Southern department store chain, Belk, is celebrating 130 years in business. In honor of that milestone, the retailer is visiting towns across their 16-state footprint to recognize local communities.

On Saturday, April 21, Kelly Freese, Belk store manager at Oglethorpe Mall, presented
a check for $20,000 to Family Promise of Greater Savannah--an organization marking 20 years of helping local families transition out of homelessness.

On Thursday Jaime Valdez, Belk Regional Vice President announced to juniors and senior that Belk will be picking up the bill for their prom as part of the department store's outreach program, Belk: Project Hometown.

This is the first time Eau Claire students will not have to fundraise to be able to attend their own prom, 60 percent of the students at the Title I school have not been able to afford the high costs of the event.

"Fifteen million (dollars) over five years is what Belk is committed to giving, but we hope to double and triple that."

In addition to its Habitat for Humanity partnership, Belk is ironing out agreements with two additional organizations for the program that will be announced in early 2018.
