Behind the Brand
As crowds gathered, music played, and city officials took the stage, our Hagerstown and regional teams prepared to introduce southern hospitality and a 130-year legacy with a grand opening – part of our more than $70 million investment in new and refreshed stores over the last two years.
Our Hagerstown store anchors Valley Mall and brought 110 jobs and an undeniable vibe to the area. “When I walked in here today, it reminded me of the energy and excitement this mall used to have,” Washington County Commissioner Jeff Cline said.
The day was filled with surprises as a handful of local dignitaries officially welcomed Belk to the mall, and more than 300 customers anxiously awaited a gift card giveaway ranging from $5 - $500.
“I’ve seen turnouts at our other Grand openings, but to have the community backing this store as part of the revitalization in the mall, it’s phenomenal,” said Randy Dell, regional vice president for Belk.
Not only does the community have our back, we have theirs. That’s why we donated $25,000 to Micah’s Backpack, a local nonprofit that provides food assistance for children from low income families. The donation was part of our community outreach program, Belk: Project Hometown – a five-year, $15 million commitment to strengthen southern communities and help families thrive.
“It’s such a blessing,” said Kathy Powderly, Micah’s Backpack a rep. “…[this donation] will provide more than 2,500 meals for kids.”
Hagerstown residents have seen our focus on customers come to life through shopping experiences and a Fall Festival where families enjoyed candied apples and delicious treats, painted pumpkins, jumped on a moon bounce, and more. Hagerstown residents are already falling in love.
